Property Description
The Jacob Eckhard House dates back to the early 1700's and was originally built as a one story, one room structure. In 1797, Jacob Eckhard added on and built the masonry Charleston single house that currently exists. Eckhard was often regarded as the ''Father of Music in Charleston'' and was the organist and choirmaster at St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Double piazzas were removed in the 1960's and a hyphen was created to attach the carriage house to the main house in the 1980's. This added space created a beautiful family room space that overlooks the original Loutrel Briggs garden. The open plan of the kitchen flows into the family room which creates a comfortable and livable floorplan.
